Artist’s Atelier

Philadelphia, PA

A charming horse stable built in the late 19th century was reimagined as a sophisticated and vibrant multiuse space for a renowned Philadelphia artist and designer. The thoughtfully converted 6,500 square foot stable now serves as a jewelry studio, show room, art studio, gallery, and event space. We preserved many original elements of the building to seamlessly complement its inherent aesthetic while reimagining others as impactful statements, such as converting a hidden steep staircase into a floating steel and cypress one and transforming the standard row house roof into a breathtaking sculpture-studded deck for large scale entertaining.

Reflecting on the space and the design process, our client reveals: “It’s had a profound impact on me, my life, my career. Walking into the building every day has just given me a sense of wholeness…I felt so supported the whole way, so confident that we’d made the right decisions and equally confident that the outcome was going to be exceptional.”

Winner of the Preservation Alliance Preservation Achievement Grand Jury Award
