Contemporary Elegance
Philadelphia

This new high-rise residence was just a blank drywall box when our clients approached us, but it did have magnificent 360-degree views and floor-to-ceiling windows. Clearly, the cityscape would remain an integral component of the apartment’s aesthetic. The layout was expansively redesigned to yield additional space for a wine cellar, wet bar, intimate dining for two, a study, and generous master dressing rooms. To give each space a distinctive personality, we worked with unexpected textures, evocative palettes, and unusual wood species.
Bold statements appear in the generous public rooms and children’s spaces, while an ethereal, restful palette envelops the master bedroom suite and guest bedroom. In some areas the colors provide a serene backdrop to the clients’ growing art collection, and in others the design pushes back visually against the skyline with bold, crisp color blocks. Incorporating the client’s favorite antiques into this fresh, contemporary space provided an emotional anchor. Elegant natural materials were used in the custom millwork throughout and the combination of walnut, cork, lacquered mahogany, gilded wood, tortoise shell tile, bronze, silk, bamboo, natural linen, and Calacatta marble have turned this undistinguished space into a sophisticated rival to the stunning views.
