Our #GlamorousRestoration project is surely living up to its name with the installation of this sensational Chihuly sculptural light. Created by the renowned glass blowing studio of Dale Chihuly, this piece captures the intricacy and mastery of his craft. Chihuly pieces are easily distinguished by their asymmetry, irregularity, and uniquely organic forms that push the boundaries of standard glass blowing.
Our Chihuly piece has over a dozen individual flower-like glass pieces, each one hand-installed by one of their studio experts. See this otherwise simple alcove space transform with the progress of the installation. The details in every electric blue bloom exude Chihuly’s philosophy: "I want people to be overwhelmed with light and color in some way that they've never experienced."

We couldn’t be happier with the result and are so thankful to the @ChihulyStudio team for bringing this vision to life! Check out our previous reel from the Chihuly studio to see the process of how each glass piece is blown.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! While people normally associate the color green with the holiday for obvious reasons, such as the connection with the four-leaf clover, leprechauns, or money, this color can also signify positivity throughout the year. Green can represent new beginnings and growth, and in design, can have a balancing and harmonizing effect. This is why the unexpected “Stardust” wallpaper by Bien Fait was the perfect choice to use on the ceiling to compliment the green millwork in one of the home offices in our #GlamorousRestoration project.

Earlier this year we took a trip to the Guggenheim

Earlier this year we took a trip to the Guggenheim and were left filled to the brim with inspiration. We first visited "Nick Cave: Forothermore", a color-laden exhibition featuring a collection of the artist's sculptures, textiles, and costume designs. While seemingly cheery on the surface, Cave embeds an important message within his works. The creation of his iconic "soundsuits" were actually a means of expressing frustration towards the oppression and mistreatment of minority groups in recent years. In an effort to make this meaningful commentary available to everyone, this exhibition is free to the public and will be open until April 10th.
Next, we visited "Alex Katz: Gathering", a playful retrospective on the artist's life in the area. The collection spans 80 years of drawings and sketches, collages and cutout, and oil paintings. Katz had an appreciation for the little everyday moments, and described his work as "quick things passing." It was a welcomed reminder of the beauty in presence.

During this 'Sips & Spaces' event you can see firsthand one of the world's premier research collections in the history of medicine, including more than four hundred incunabula, or editions printed before 1501. Along with the illustrious preservation of the 1928 Cope & Stewardson architecture, you'll see all the careful design strategies we used to safeguard such precious books, manuscripts, and art. Opening Tomorrow — Disney 100: The Exhibition at the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia! This local exhibition celebrates 100 years of Walt Disney magic, showcasing a nostalgic collection of artworks, costume designs, and memorabilia from movies and shows over the years. You can see this special tribute in the Karabots Pavilion that we designed alongside a multifaceted team of architects, engineers, exhibition designers, and artists. In order to respect the fabric of the original structure built by John Windrim in 1931, we developed the steel frame pavilion in his classic architectural style. To then make it a practical, multi-use space for current day, we populated it with sustainable, state of the art facilities to host wonderful exhibitions just like Dinsey 100. Artist renderings courtesy of the Franklin Institute (photos 4-6) demonstrate how the interactive exhibition comes to life in the Karabots Pavilion.

Matisse or Modigliani? Take your pick! Our Philadelphia arts community recently hosted works from both of these renowned artists and we were so lucky to see them first-hand. “Matisse in the 1930's" was a recently featured exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Fascinatingly, Matisse reached a new peak in his career while he was commissioned to adorn our very own Barnes Foundation in 1930 with his awe-inspiring mural, "The Dance". The PMA exhibition highlighted works from the time he spent creating in Philadelphia that would have a profound impact on the duration of his career.
Also featured at the Barnes Foundation was the "Modigliani Up Close" exhibition, with special attention given to the artist's unusual techniques in painting and sculpture-making. Expert researchers from all over the globe revealed emerging studies on how he created some of his most famous works, giving us a new appreciation for the classics.

Art curation is one of the many services #EDC offers to create a home that is multi-layered, dynamic, and rich with stories. For our #CentralParkCollector project, we helped curate our client’s notable contemporary art collection to best accentuate the transformation of their space from dated and inward-looking into a modern, art-focused classic.

The client’s collection is incredibly diverse and includes paintings, prints, pottery, artifacts, and sculptures. Sculptures add a unique dimension to a space, because, unlike paintings, sculptures inhabit the space shared by the viewer, allowing them to be “immersed” within the art. The largest sculpture selected for the Central Park Collector is an untitled wooden piece painted white by famed sculptor, Louise Nevelson, who is renowned for her monumental, monochromatic, wooden wall pieces and outdoor sculptures.

Every space we design tells a story. With amazing views of the natural landscape of Montana, this master bathroom has a powerful dialogue with its surroundings. Crafted with enormous slabs of textured Fantasy Brown Stone, the bathroom’s design mirrors the mountain view both in its color and its sweeping scale. The client’s desire to emphasize the connection led us to this referential material choice. The romantic bathtub setting “bathes” in the moonlight and the crystal ceiling fixture generates a cascade of star-shaped light to complement those in the sky. The connection is complete.
