Read More“Barbara Eberlein’s zeal for history, architecture, and the arts is boundless… This unquenchable thirst for knowledge coupled with an inherent elegance has helped establish Eberlein, who founded her firm in Philadelphia in 1984, as one of the foremost figures working in interior design today.”
– Incollect, 2016
“If you’re looking for beauty in Philadelphia, whether in a museum or in your home, no one is a better guide than Barbara Eberlein.”
– Juliet Izon, Philly Style Magazine, 2013
“One of Philadelphia’s most treasured creative minds, she has won 30 design awards including ASID’s Designer of the Year Award, yet she is still the consummate pupil taking every opportunity to broaden her knowledge base at places like Sotheby’s, The Bard Graduate Center, and the Institute of Classical Architecture.”
– Spectacular Homes, 2006
“Working with Barbara was like a breath of fresh air. So many interior designers don’t design, they just look at things in magazines. With Barbara, her approach is, ‘I’m an interior designer – I’m going to design this light!”
– Wil Wilkins, Firesong Forge, 2022
“My husband and I and indeed our whole family have so much respect for Barbara. Her design sense, her eye, her thoughtfulness, her business acumen. We just admire her very much as a person and someone with a real artistic eye…She was just so thoughtful about how to go about our living room redesign. I appreciate her flexibility and creativity in making a place beautiful but comfortable. She was also really good at pushing us to try new things!”
– Karen Nakahara, 2022
“Barbara Eberlein’s classic sense of style and practicality with clients have created beautiful environments in homes and commercial spaces for more than 20 years.”
– RealPhilly, 2004
“Barbara’s interior designs are always deeply impressive, but the [Artist’s Atelier] is a MASTERWORK! I was blown away by the industrial idiom. Great rehab, great space, with the terrace a cherry on top.”
– Kathryn B. Hiesinger, PhD, 2021
“For 30 years, Eberlein has been crafting interiors for some of Philadelphia’s most esteemed properties, designed by many of its greatest architects- Horace Trumbauer, Frank Furness, Walter Durham-and is best known for her vast knowledge of and prowess in historical preservation.”
– Philadelphia Style, 2014
“Style, function and quality. This is the philosophical floor plan that Philadelphia-based interior designer Barbara Eberlein builds into every project.”
– Nancy A. Ruhling, Period Homes, 2011
“Eminent Center City interior designer Barbara Eberlein is best known for her restorations of grand old Main Line manses (see: Ardrossan). Her more secret talent: giving brand-new spaces the luster and luxury of residences many times their age.”
– Philly Mag, January 2009
“A passion for travel coupled with her archaeology background has informed her classic, antique-filled aesthetic.”
– Philadelphia Style, 2017
“There is no signature look to her work, but rather an introspective process. She asks clients to look inward to discover what pleases them – something that is truly their own vision.”
– Spectacular Homes, 2006
“With an influential voice in today’s dynamic design community, she has built a national reputation for expertise in the restoration of significant historic structures of the 19th and early 20th centuries.”
– Freeman’s Auction House
“Being included in the restoration and new work at Barbara’s recent residential restoration project was an exciting journey. Through the changes, the turns, and at times, through some uncertainty, what kept the project on track was Barbara’s knowledge and tenacious imagination. Every single choice she made was always better than the last.”
– Brian Boland, Boland Woodworking, 2022
“In the Philadelphia region, where more than a few charming (read: old and outdated) houses make homes, Barbara Eberlein has made a successful career out of creating beautiful abodes from less-than-stellar spaces.”
– Philadelphia Style, 2007
“One of Philadelphia’s most treasured creative minds, she has won 30 design awards including ASID’s Designer of the Year Award, yet she is still the consummate pupil taking every opportunity to broaden her knowledge base at places like Sotheby’s, The Bard Graduate Center, and the Institute of Classical Architecture.”
– Spectacular Homes, 2006
“Selecting design schemes that have substance and the adaptability to transcend centuries and continents to create something fresh is what sets her apart.”
– Philadelphia Style, 2017
“Whether she’s working on a Gilded Age estate or a deliciously modern beach house, Eberlein excels at creating exquisitely curated and supremely livable interiors.”
– Incollect, 2016
“The Rittenhouse design doyenne’s namesake consulting firm, Eberlein Design Consultants Ltd., is the creative force behind some of the city’s poshest residences and the mindful caretaker of countless historic restoration projects.”
– Philadelphia Style, 2017
“Working with Barbara is a collaborative process which truly inspires and encourages the best work possible. It is a joy to help her creativity shine through photography!”
– Nicole Eagles Kearney, 2022
